UNSMIL Praises Successful Voting Completion in Nine Libyan Municipalities

Tripoli: The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the completion of voting yesterday in nine municipalities.

According to Libyan News Agency, the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) reported that polling operations were conducted in a generally calm and orderly environment.

The UNSMIL stated that the estimated preliminary voter turnout was 69 percent, reflecting public engagement in the electoral processes. UNSMIL commended the work of local authorities, security, and HNEC teams for enabling the elections, along with the observers, agents, and media for safeguarding the electoral process.

UNSMIL urged all relevant actors to support the HNEC in completing its remaining work, including ensuring the secure transfer, tabulation, and verification of result forms at the tally center. The Mission emphasized the importance of respecting the electoral process's integrity and utilizing established legal mechanisms to resolve any potential disputes.

UNSMIL reiterated its full support for Libyan-led efforts to advance inclusive, credible, and transparent electoral processes. The nine municipal councils targeted for elections within Group Three (2025) are Benghazi, Suluq, Qaminis, Al-Abyar, Tokra, Tobruk, Qasr Al-Jedi, Sabha, and Sirte.
