Tunis: The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has announced that participants in the fourth round of 'mini-meeting' consultations have reached a consensus on the Libyan presidential election law. This development marks a significant step forward, building on previous understandings achieved in earlier meetings. According to Libyan News Agency, the UNSMIL hosted the fourth round of these consultations at its office in Tunis. The meetings are part of efforts to agree on the first two phases of the UN-facilitated roadmap aimed at resolving Libya's electoral challenges. The Mission reported that discussions occurred in a positive and constructive atmosphere, leading to an agreement on the presidential election law. This agreement is an extension of prior understandings concerning the parliamentary election law and the completion of forming the board of directors for the High National Elections Commission. The Mission confirmed that the consultations have addressed most issues related to the elect oral process within the first two phases of the roadmap. The process is nearing the completion of necessary understandings concerning the electoral procedures. Participants have agreed to reconvene for the fifth round of consultations in the first half of the coming month to continue discussions and further progress.
