UNSMIL and National Council for Civil Liberties Discuss Human Rights in Libya

Benghazi:The Human Rights, Transitional Justice, and Rule of Law Service of UNSMIL held a meeting with the National Council for Civil Liberties and Human Rights at the Council's office in Benghazi. According to Libyan News Agency, discussions during the meeting with the Deputy Head of the Council focused on the Council's current priorities, targeted needs, and potential areas for further cooperation. This engagement is part of UNSMIL's efforts to work with national human rights institutions in line with the Paris Principles. The meeting addressed key human rights issues, urgent concerns, and explored opportunities to enhance cooperation on human rights protection, the rule of law, and national human rights mechanisms in Libya. Additionally, the Council organized productive meetings with Benghazi authorities, including the Military Prosecutor, the General Prosecutor, the Chief of the Judicial Police, and the National Committee for Monitoring the Conditions of Prisons and Detainees. These discussions covered recent human rights developments and concerns, particularly focusing on the situation of detainees and the resumption of executions.
