Ten General Water Company Officials Detained Over Procurement Violations

Tripoli:Ten individuals from the General Water Company have been detained for violating procurement regulations. The Public Prosecution announced the pretrial detention of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Water and Wastewater Company, the head of the Contracts Department, and members of the company's procurement receiving committee. This detention is related to irregularities involving four contracts for the supply of water transport pipes to various municipalities.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Public Prosecution stated on Thursday that its investigation included findings from an audit by the Audit Bureau concerning the four contracts the company had entered into with a supplier, amounting to a total value of 16,639,000 Libyan dinars.

The investigation revealed that the procurement award procedures were violated, and company officials accepted materials that did not meet the specifications outlined in the contracts. The irregularities included the acceptance of pipes made from materials prone to rust, despite a requirement for rust-resistant stainless steel, as well as deviations from specifications regarding the country of origin.

The Prosecution further noted that investigators discovered the authorization of a payment of 4,459,000 Libyan dinars for one of the supply contracts, even though the value of the materials actually supplied, which failed to meet the required specifications, did not exceed 1,700,000 Libyan dinars.
