UN Stresses Importance of Combating Corruption for Libya’s Stability

Tripoli: ‘Ending corruption and strengthening oversight are fundamental for Libya’s stability,’ the UN emphasized during an event in Tripoli. The statement was made by Ulrika Richardson, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and UN Resident Coordinator in Libya, during the International Anti-Corruption Day commemoration hosted by the Administrative Control Authority.

According to Libyan News Agency, Richardson highlighted that corruption not only undermines people’s equal access to essential services but also erodes public trust, which is crucial for the country’s stability. She pointed out that corruption significantly hampers necessary reforms and weakens the state along with its national sovereignty.

Richardson also emphasized the vital role of young people in combating corruption. She remarked that the energy, creativity, and leadership of the youth are essential in shaping more transparent and accountable systems. Furthermore, she reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting Libya
in strengthening its institutions and fostering a future where integrity is the guiding principle in all spheres of public life.
