UN Mission in Libya Condemns Killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi

Tripoli: The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has expressed its dismay at the killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, which occurred on February 3 in the Hamada region, near Zintan.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Mission released a statement on Wednesday condemning the targeted killing and similar acts of violence. These acts are seen as undermining the rule of law, violating the sanctity of human life, and threatening peace and stability in Libya.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya called on the relevant authorities in Libya to conduct an urgent and transparent investigation into the crime. The Mission emphasized the need to identify those responsible and bring the perpetrators to justice, urging decisive measures to put an end to this pattern of violence.

Furthermore, the Mission urged all parties to exercise restraint. It called for the avoidance of actions that could escalate tensions or jeopardize security and stability throughout the country. The Mission highlighted the importance of pursuing a political solution in Libya as a means to achieve long-term stability and development.
