Tripoli: The General Authority for Telecommunications and Informatics (GTI) of the Government of National Unity announced its agreement with Huawei Libya to ensure the continuation of its activities in compliance with applicable legislation.
According to Libyan News Agency, the GTI stated that Huawei Libya has committed to full compliance with the provisions of Law No. (22) of 2010, its implementing regulations, and the circulars and instructions issued by the GTI. Officials from the Authority met with representatives of Huawei Technizon Technical Services – Libya Branch to discuss regulatory and legislative procedures governing international companies in Libya.
The Authority reiterated the importance of adhering to Law No. (22) of 2010 on Telecommunications and its related implementing regulations, which serve as the legal framework for the telecommunications sector. Huawei, having operated in Libya for over two decades, confirmed its commitment to Libyan laws and expressed its intention to continue cooperating with the Authority to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
Recently, the General Authority for Communications and Informatics had suspended Huawei’s activities in Libya due to violations of national and international laws, which threatened national security. The suspension was linked to Huawei’s involvement in illegal contracts with unauthorized entities, breaching Libyan national security and violating Law No. (22) of 2010, which governs telecommunications licensing and permits.
The Authority noted that Huawei’s actions violated international telecommunication principles and standards, requiring respect for the sovereignty of member states and adherence to local laws. The Authority declared that Huawei’s activities would remain suspended until their legal status is resolved, with any unauthorized contracts deemed invalid.
