Benghazi: Presidential Council member Abdullah Al-Lafi has voiced his concerns regarding the priorities of the House of Representatives, criticizing their focus on financial legislation while electoral deadlines continue to be postponed. Al-Lafi, in a tweet on his official “X” platform account, highlighted that Libyans are still awaiting long-overdue elections and emphasized the need for national consensus to address the root causes of the crisis.
According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Lafi stated that “financial legislation alone is not sufficient to address the suffering of the citizen,” underscoring that the main issue facing Libyans is not simply the numbers in budget books, but the lack of national consensus to rebuild trust. He stressed the importance of overcoming the political deadlock through a comprehensive agreement that includes all parties, advocating for a national project driven by genuine Libyan interests, free from narrow and temporary disputes.
Al-Lafi’s remarks emerge amidst increasing demands for expedited elections to resolve the ongoing political stalemate. Concerns are mounting that without a comprehensive political solution, focusing solely on financial issues could exacerbate the Libyan crisis rather than alleviate it.
In a session held in Benghazi on Tuesday, the House of Representatives approved the draft public debt law, incorporating comments from the Planning, Finance, and General Budget Committee on the legislation.
