A number of members of the Russian peacekeeping forces were killed in the Nagorno-Karabakh region as a result of gunfire targeting the car in which they were traveling, according to what the Ministry of Defense in Moscow announced on Wednesday.
The Ministry said in a statement, "While they were returning from a Russian peacekeeping battalion observation point in the area surrounding the village of Dzhaniatag, Russian soldiers on board a car came under fire from small arms. The Russian soldiers who were in the car were killed."
Russian soldiers are present among the peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Azerbaijan and the Armenian separatist authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh announced today, a ceasefire after the separatists agreed to lay down their weapons and begin talks on the reintegration of the disputed region, indicating the end of the military operation that the Azerbaijani forces began a day ago, which left at least 32 people dead.
