Egypt and Greece Discuss Developments in Libya

Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis, discussed regional developments, particularly the situation in Libya, during a phone call on Thursday. They also discussed ways to bolster bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Egyptian minister emphasized Egypt's unwavering support for the unity and stability of the Libyan state and the necessity of unifying its institutions to ensure the preservation of its national sovereignty. He also stressed the importance of reaching a comprehensive Libyan-Libyan political settlement that reflects the aspirations of the Libyan people and leads to an end to the current division.

Both sides affirmed the importance of continuing international and regional efforts to support the political process in Libya, aiming to create the conditions for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, as a fundamental step towards achieving lasting stability.

The two ministers agreed to continue consultations and coordination between Cairo and Athens within the framework of the strategic relations that unite the two countries, while supporting efforts aimed at reducing escalation in the Middle East region and enhancing regional security and stability.
