Sirte: The Public Prosecution Office has suspended 598 national identification numbers that were improperly granted to foreigners at the Civil Registry Office in Sirte Central. This measure is part of ongoing efforts to combat the manipulation of citizenship data and address its resulting economic, social, and political impacts.

According to Libyan News Agency, investigators from the Public Prosecutor's Office, while examining cases of forgery within civil registry data, uncovered serious breaches of responsibility in managing the data system at the Sirte Central Civil Registry Office. They identified irregularities involving forged family records that led to the issuance of 598 national identification numbers to foreigners. These individuals subsequently used documents derived from these forged records to acquire full citizenship rights.

The investigation prompted the suspension of the compromised national identification numbers, a comprehensive review of related administrative transactions, and the initiation of criminal proceedings against those implicated in the forgery.
