Public Prosecution Detains Two Members of Human Trafficking Gang

Tripoli: The Public Prosecution has ordered the detention of two individuals involved in a criminal gang. These individuals are accused of coordinating illegal immigration operations and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the organization.

According to Libyan News Agency, investigations conducted by officers of the Al-Wahat Criminal Investigation Department revealed the gang’s involvement in detaining 263 illegal immigrants. The immigrants were held to extort payments from their families, demanding $17,000 for each Somali national and $10,000 for each Eritrean national. The investigation successfully identified the detention location and led to the arrest of two suspects caught red-handed.

Further investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the suspects’ involvement in forming a gang dedicated to human trafficking. They were found to have established locations where victims were deprived of their freedom and subjected to torture and inhumane treatment to force their families to pay ransoms.
