Political Affairs Undersecretary participates in GCC-U.S. Joint Ministerial Meeting on Strategic Partnership

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Political Affairs Undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in the GCC-US Joint Ministerial Meeting on Strategic Partnership.

US Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken, participated in the meeting, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the GCC in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the robust strategic partnership between the GCC and the USA, as well as ways to enhance them in the political, economic and security fields.

The aim is to serve joint interests in a way that would contribute to the consolidation of security and peace in the Arabian Gulf region, the Middle East and the world. It also aims to build on the previous common agreements, in light of the positive outcomes of the Jeddah Summit for Security and Development in2022, and the previous ministerial meetings.

The GCC-US Joint Ministerial Meeting on Strategic Partnership also discussed regional and international issues related to the security and stability of the region, and prospects for cooperation in combating extremism and terrorism.

It also followed up on the diplomatic efforts and initiatives to settle regional and international disputes by peaceful means, while respecting the international law and the Charter of the United Nations and rejecting interference in internal affairs as well as the common desire to consolidate security, stability, just comprehensive peace, and prosperity in the region and the world.

The GCC side was chaired by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al-Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman and Chairman of the current session of the GCC Ministerial Council, in the presence of Jassim Muhammad Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC.
