National Unity Government Declares Three-Day Mourning for Libyan Army Chiefs

Tripoli: The Government of National Unity has announced a three-day national mourning period following the tragic death of the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad, and his companions. The mourning period will see flags flown at half-staff across all state institutions, and official ceremonies will be suspended. This decision comes in the wake of a devastating plane crash that occurred while the officials were returning from an official mission to Turkey. According to Libyan News Agency, the government released a statement late Tuesday night mourning the loss of several key military figures. These include Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad, Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, and Lieutenant General Al-Fitouri Ghraibil, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces. Also among the deceased are Brigadier General Mahmoud Al-Qatawi, Director of the Military Manufacturing Authority, Mr. Mohammed Al-Asawi Diab, Advisor to the Chief of the General Staff, and Mr. M ohammed Omar Ahmed Mahjoub, a photographer at the General Staff Media Office. The statement highlighted the significant contributions these individuals made to the Libyan military and state, noting their loyalty, discipline, and dedication. The government expressed deep condolences to their families and colleagues in the armed forces, acknowledging the profound loss to the nation. In response to the incident, the Prime Minister has directed the Ministry of Defense to send an official delegation to Ankara. This delegation is tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, coordinating with Turkish authorities, and ensuring that all procedural measures are implemented appropriately.
