Tripoli: The National Safety Department in Tripoli has issued a warning to citizens regarding the potential dangers associated with increased electrical loads during the ongoing heatwave. The department highlighted that the frequent power outages and subsequent restorations, coupled with the simultaneous operation of numerous electrical appliances, could result in voltage drops. This scenario raises the risk of electricity meters burning out, damage to household appliances, and potential fire hazards.
According to Libyan News Agency, the department explained that the simultaneous use of many electrical devices significantly increases the current drawn from the power supply, which can cause a drop in voltage levels. This voltage drop forces certain appliances to draw more current than usual to make up for the deficiency, leading to the overheating of electrical wires, damage to appliances, and possibly triggering fires.
The department further elaborated on the direct relationship between electrical power, voltage, and current, stating that fluctuations in voltage can significantly impact the efficiency of appliances and the safety of electrical wiring. These effects are particularly pronounced during peak hours and periods of elevated temperatures.
In light of these risks, the Tripoli National Safety Department urged citizens to strictly follow electrical safety guidelines. This includes avoiding the simultaneous operation of multiple electrical appliances and taking necessary precautions to ensure safety until the heatwave subsides, thereby protecting both lives and property.
