National Oil Corporation Discusses Expanding City Gas Project Across Libya

Tripoli: The National Oil Corporation (NOC) is in discussions to expand the city gas project to all Libyan cities. During the first technical and financial meeting with the General Company for Gas Transmission and Distribution, NOC Chairman Masoud Suleiman emphasized the company's critical role as a technical arm in implementing gas transmission and distribution projects and developing the necessary infrastructure.

According to Libyan News Agency, Suleiman urged the company to broaden its operations to cover various Libyan cities and regions, capitalizing on its expertise in executing strategic projects. He pointed out that this expansion would support development, improve services, and reduce project implementation costs.

Suleiman also highlighted the importance of integrating efforts between the NOC, the company, and other relevant entities. He stressed the need for well-defined roles and responsibilities to ensure coordinated efforts, improved performance efficiency, and optimal use of available resources. Safety, he noted, must remain a top priority, with comprehensive risk assessments required before project implementation to protect personnel, assets, and facilities.

The Chairman of the Steering Committee of the company noted that despite the country's challenges, the company has maintained its operational role and ensured a continuous gas flow in accordance with efficiency and safety standards. He reiterated the company's commitment to its responsibilities in gas transmission and distribution, infrastructure projects, and delivering gas to cities and residential areas.

During the meeting, the company presented reports on various departments, including occupational health and safety, operations, planning and projects, commercial affairs, customer accounts, human resources, and financial affairs. They also reviewed the significant challenges facing operations.

Discussions also covered the problems and difficulties hindering the launch and implementation of city gas projects in Tripoli and Benghazi, along with infrastructure projects like the gas pipeline from the Al-Faragh field to the Sarir gas power plant. Strategies to support these projects and overcome obstacles were explored.

The meeting underscored the importance of improving the company's performance and its role in implementing gas projects in alignment with the NOC's plans, contributing to infrastructure development, and enhancing the efficiency of gas transmission and distribution across the regions.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman and members of the Board of Directors of the Corporation, department heads and specialists, and the Chairman and members of the Steering Committee and department heads of the General Company for Gas Transmission and Distribution.
