Cairo: MP Abdul Salam Nasiya, a member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Parliamentary Union, has highlighted the significance of rotating the membership of the specialized committees within the Union’s Executive Committee to ensure equitable geopolitical representation among member states.
According to Libyan News Agency, MP Nasiya made these comments during his participation in the 39th session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Parliamentary Union, which convened in Cairo. In his address, he urged the Chairman and committee members to consider Benghazi, Libya, as the venue for the next committee meeting, emphasizing Libya’s preparedness to host the significant parliamentary gathering.
MP Nasiya also pointed out that September 9th marks the anniversary of the founding of the African Union, announced in Sirte, Libya. He proposed sending an official congratulatory message to the African Union to support and strengthen Arab-African relations.
The House of Representatives spokesperson stated that the meeting covered several agenda items, including the General Secretariat’s report on the previous session and the Interim Parliamentary Diplomatic Committee’s reports on amendments to the internal regulations of the Arab Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Discussions also included an emergency item the Arab Parliamentary Group plans to present at the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in October, the draft budget for 2026, and the venue for the fortieth session of the Union’s Executive Committee.
This meeting is part of efforts to enhance joint Arab parliamentary collaboration and increase coordination among legislative councils on regional and international issues.
