Sabratha: The Department of Antiquities of the Government of National Unity and the University of Sabratha agreed on Wednesday to prepare a cooperation protocol that lays the strategic foundations for a future partnership between the two parties. The agreement aims to invite international partners to contribute to initiatives to protect and preserve Libya’s cultural heritage.

According to Libyan News Agency, this agreement came during a meeting between the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Department of Antiquities and a number of officials from the University of Sabratha, as part of an official visit to the city of Sabratha. The meeting was attended by the President of the University of Sabratha, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Archaeology, and the Director of the University’s International Cooperation Office, along with several faculty members from the Faculty of Tourism and Archaeology.

The Department posted on its official Facebook page that the two sides discussed a number of innovative ideas and projects that would enhance academic and institutional cooperation and benefit from the University of Sabratha’s network of international relations with prestigious universities around the world. The discussions also focused on ways to attract international research centers to support restoration and conservation programs and develop mechanisms for managing archaeological sites, especially in the city of Sabratha, one of Libya’s most prominent historical sites.

The Authority explained that among the expected objectives of this cooperation are: providing the necessary resources for restoration projects, developing human capacity, raising the professional competence of workers in the antiquities sector, and utilizing modern technologies in the fields of documentation and restoration.
