Malta sets mechanisms to lift freezing of Libyan funds in Valletta and Sata banks.

Valletta, The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs “Murad Hamima” confirmed that the Maltese government had responded with a great deal to the Government of National Unity regarding the mechanisms for lifting the freezing of Libyan citizens’ funds and allowing them to transfer their frozen funds to Maltese banks, and that Maltese officials confirmed that their country has no intention or desire to target the Libyans’ money in any way, and that the consulate will publish the mechanisms required for the affected citizens to be able to recover their money.

The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs explained in press statements today that (the accounts of Libyan citizens frozen in Malta are concentrated in the “Valletta” and “Sata” banks, and we have completed the inventory of the closed accounts in Valletta Bank, numbering 1,800 accounts, and “Sata Bank” accounts are still under liquidation and monitoring).
