Cairo: The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, emphasized that Libya's stability and security rely heavily on respecting its sovereignty and independent national decision-making.
According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Baour made these remarks during a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Cairo. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 166th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of foreign ministers. During the meeting, Al-Baour reiterated Libya's stance against foreign interference and any solutions imposed that do not align with the will and aspirations of the Libyan people. He underscored the need to support efforts aimed at unifying state institutions, enhancing security and stability, and creating conditions conducive to ending transitional phases and moving towards a sustainable political phase.
Al-Baour also highlighted the necessity for support from the international community and Arab nations to ensure the Libyan political process is conducted in a way that preserves Libya's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He stressed the importance of ensuring that solutions are based on Libyan national consensus, free from foreign disputes and interference.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed Egypt's unwavering support for Libya's stability, unity, and sovereignty. He committed to ongoing coordination and consultation with the Libyan side to support the political process, contribute to security and stability, and facilitate the completion of national milestones. Abdelatty emphasized the significance of maintaining the unity of Libyan state institutions and the country's territorial integrity.
The meeting also touched on the bilateral relations between Libya and Egypt, exploring ways to enhance and develop joint cooperation in various fields to serve the common interests of both countries and their peoples. Discussions included issues and topics of mutual interest, along with regional and international developments.
Al-Baour provided an overview of the latest developments in Libya and the political process, underscoring the need for unified national efforts, support for Libyan institutions, and progress towards completing political milestones.
