Tripoli: President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, emphasized the urgency of concluding the transitional phases and preventing their persistence as a permanent reality. Al-Menfi conveyed these sentiments during a meeting at the Presidential Council headquarters in Tripoli with a delegation from the Misrata Military Council, attended by representatives from the city and other regions.
According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Menfi expressed his support for any serious political resolution that would abbreviate the transitional period, facilitate the completion of the political process, and lead to national elections aimed at ending division and restoring legitimacy through the people's will. The meeting, as reported by the Media Office of the President of the Presidential Council, reviewed recent developments in Libya, addressing political, security, and economic issues, and underscored the necessity of safeguarding the national trajectory against any suspect understandings or arrangements that could exacerbate the situation or perpetuate division.
The discussion also tackled issues such as fighting corruption, organized crime, fuel and resource smuggling, and human trafficking. It emphasized the importance of reinforcing accountability and combating impunity. The Misrata delegation, as per the President of the Presidential Council's Media Office, confirmed its support for Al-Menfi's efforts to stabilize the nation and move towards a comprehensive political settlement that ends the transitional phases and establishes conditions for presidential and parliamentary elections within a definitive constitutional and legal framework.
The Misrata Military Council delegation asserted that it would actively oppose any agreements or arrangements that compromise the dignity of Libyans or violate their collective will.
