Tripoli: Officers from across Libya have engaged in discussions on a proposal to establish a regional coordination mechanism for border security, according to the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). This initiative aims to enhance technical and field coordination between Libyan border security authorities and neighboring countries.

According to Libyan News Agency, this proposal was announced during the conclusion of meetings of the Joint Technical Coordination Team on Border Security. The team, comprising security and military officers from across Libya, conducted the meetings with the participation of Stephanie Koury, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Political Affairs, along with representatives of the Security Working Group Co-chairs of the Berlin Process.

UNSMIL reported that during the discussions, the technical team provided a briefing on their work over the past few months. Notable steps included actions taken between April 14 and 16, such as establi

Moreover, the technical team engaged in meetings with representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). These discussions focused on joint efforts related to border security, irregular migration, and counterterrorism, as well as exploring necessary support to further these initiatives.
