Libyan House of Representatives Approves New Presidium Term System

Benghazi:The House of Representatives has voted, with a majority of 98 votes, to implement a new parliamentary term system for its Presidium. The decision was made during a session held at its headquarters attended by 102 members of parliament.

According to Libyan News Agency, the session was chaired by the Second Deputy Speaker, Misbah Douma, following a request from several lawmakers to establish a structured term for the House Presidium. This new system stipulates that the term will last for 12 months from the date of election and will end automatically at the conclusion of this period. The next term will commence with the election of a new Presidium within seven days after this amendment's approval.

House Spokesperson Abdullah Blihaq stated that the new rules ensure that the outgoing Presidium cannot delay the election of successors or extend its own term. In the event that the outgoing Presidium does not call an election, the House of Representatives will convene automatically, assuming a quorum is present. In such cases, the oldest member will chair the session, and the youngest will act as rapporteur until the election of the new Presidium is completed.

This amendment was passed after thorough discussion and debate among the members, marking a significant change in the governance of the House of Representatives.
