Sirte: A delegation from the Libyan government appointed by parliament met with the coordinators of the Al-Somoud Convoy in Sirte. The meeting aimed to negotiate the convoy’s passage towards the Egyptian border as it endeavors to break the siege on Gaza.
According to Libyan News Agency, the delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abdul Hadi Al-Huwaij and included key government figures such as Health Minister Othman Abdul Jalil, Social Affairs Minister Mabrouk Ghaith, and State Minister for Communications Khaled Al-Saadawi. Other notable attendees were the Undersecretary General of the Ministry of Interior, Faraj Aqaim, Chairman of the Libyan Relief Agency, Salem Bouzraida, Secretary-General of the Libyan Red Crescent, Omar Jaouda, and Palestinian Consul General, Imad Al-Attili.
The talks focused on supporting the Maghreb Al-Somoud Convoy’s mission to reach the Rafah crossing, emphasizing Libya’s steadfast position on the Palestinian issue. The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to treating Palestinians as Libyans and highlighted the House of Representatives’ decision to criminalize normalization with the Zionist entity.
According to the Ministry’s statement, Palestinian Consul Imad Al-Attili expressed gratitude for Libya’s support, praising both official and popular initiatives backing Palestine. Discussions included the convoy’s organization and the necessity of adhering to coordination guidelines set by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
The Al-Somoud Convoy, halted since Thursday night at Sirte’s entrance, awaits security clearance to proceed to the Libyan-Egyptian border, underscoring the logistical challenges in this humanitarian effort.
