Tripoli: Chief of the Supreme Judicial Council, Miftah Al Gawy, held discussions with UN Deputy Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Koury, on reinforcing the independence of the judiciary and strengthening the unity of judicial authority.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting took place at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli, focusing on the judiciary’s role in adjudicating electoral disputes. Both parties exchanged views on best practices to ensure impartiality, transparency, and the rule of law in electoral processes.
Al Gawy emphasized the importance of supporting the judiciary’s independence to build confidence in the judicial system and consolidate justice principles. Koury reiterated UNSMIL’s commitment to supporting Libya’s judicial institutions in their efforts to uphold justice, protect fundamental rights, and contribute to preserving stability.
