Tripoli: Stephanie Khoury, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, engaged in discussions with members of the Fezzan Forum on Tuesday, addressing significant challenges faced by the region, including infrastructure development, border security, and migration.
According to Libyan News Agency, the discussions concentrated on key issues such as representation, infrastructure, border security, migration, and the inclusion of Fezzan's voices in the political process. The delegation highlighted Fezzan's historical role in promoting unity among Libyans.
Khoury reviewed progress on the UN-facilitated political roadmap, including the agreement on the "mini-meeting." She emphasized the importance of advancing the political process towards national elections, unifying state institutions, and addressing critical priorities for achieving stability.
Khoury reiterated the mission's commitment to engaging with all segments of the Fezzan region, ensuring that diverse Libyan perspectives are incorporated into efforts to reach a sustainable political solution.
The UN mission noted that this meeting is part of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya's (UNSMIL) ongoing engagement with various Libyan parties.
