Tripoli: The Ministry of Justice of the Government of National Unity convened a significant meeting today, addressing the operations of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), which was established by a Cabinet decision in 2022. Attendees included representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and prominent figures such as the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, and the Military Prosecutor General.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting covered several key topics, including discussions on the NHRC’s activities, a letter from the Secretariat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and a presentation by the Monitoring and Documentation Team regarding human rights violations noted in March 2025.
Minister of Justice Halima Al-Bousifi highlighted to the agency that the meeting focused on reviewing a national plan as part of a broader national strategy to be adopted by the Council of Ministers for 2024 to 2027. She also discussed the international report concerning the National Committee’s report, chaired by herself.
Al-Bousifi emphasized the plan’s aim to communicate Libya’s commitments to international organizations, including the United Nations and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. She noted that the National Committee for Human Rights had successfully fulfilled its role, offering a briefing last July that received commendation from international bodies. The committee expressed satisfaction with technical support and did not delve into international mechanisms.
