Baghdad: In a recent operation carried out by the Federal Integrity Commission in Maysan Governorate, authorities have apprehended six individuals for illegally exploiting state-owned land. These arrests highlight ongoing efforts to safeguard public resources from unauthorized use.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Maysan Investigation Office acted upon information about a group exploiting a plot of land in the city of Amara. The office formed a dedicated team to verify these claims. As a result, the team successfully arrested the suspects while they were found trespassing on land designated for a real estate developer’s project. The suspects were illegally selling soil from the land to citizens for personal financial gain, without any legal approvals.
The encroached area, comprising 15 dunums, was intended for developmental purposes. The operation was conducted under the direction of the judge of the investigative court specializing in integrity cases in Maysan. The arrest was made in accordance with Article 340 of the Penal Code. Additionally, the Amara district governor was involved to clarify the steps taken to address the encroachment. This included conducting an on-site inspection with a surveyor from the Maysan Agriculture Directorate and recording statements from legal representatives of the Agriculture Directorate, the State Real Estate Department, and the Amara Municipality Directorate.
