Foreign Minister of Tunisia reviews with UN Envoy role of Libya’s neighboring countries in supporting UN efforts to restore Libya’s security and stability

Tunis- The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Al Jerandi reviewed in Tunis on Friday with the new Special Representative of UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Abdoulaye Bathily UN efforts to push political settlement in Libya and the important role of Libya’s neighboring countries in supporting these efforts, to enable Libya restore its security and stability. The Tunisian Foreign Ministry said that Al Jerandi” commended the choice of “Batelli” for the post, based on his extensive experience in international relations and crisis management, and his experience in dealing with the Libyan file at the international level, reiterating his wishes for success in leading the efforts of the United Nations mediation in this brotherly country, and assuring him of Tunisia’s full support for him and the United Nations mission in Libya.

The Tunisian minister stressed his country’s keenness to support efforts aimed at completing the political track in Libya and reaching a Libyan-Libyan political solution, in a way that responds to the legitimate aspirations of the Libyan people for security, peace and development, and protects Libya’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

For his part, Batelli pointed out that Tunisia is his first stop in the framework of carrying out his UN tasks, convinced of the importance of its role in advancing the efforts of the Libyan settlement and in appreciation of its constructive and balanced positions on the developments in the situation in Libya.

The UN official also stressed his keenness to exert maximum efforts to help restore stability to Libya, in order to restore balance to the region and support regional and international peace and security.
