Tripoli: The European Union has declared its support for the truce in Tripoli and emphasized the importance of holding accountable those responsible for crimes committed during the crisis. The EU underscored its firm backing for the recently announced truce and the subsequent reduction of tensions in the city.
According to Libyan News Agency, the EU Mission to Libya released a statement expressing concern over the reported civilian casualties and significant damage to infrastructure in residential areas. The EU extended its sympathies to all victims and their families affected by the conflict.
The statement urged for the truce to be upheld and called for all involved parties to engage promptly in authentic dialogue aimed at peacefully and constructively resolving outstanding differences. Additionally, the EU encouraged all parties to support the United Nations Support Mission in Libya’s (UNSMIL) commendable mediation and de-escalation efforts.
The EU also made a strong call for ensuring full accountability for those responsible for crimes committed during the crisis. The EU reiterated its commitment to collaborating with like-minded Libyan and international partners to restore calm in Tripoli and quickly resume the mediation process facilitated by UNSMIL, as mentioned in the statement.
