Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty met with the US President's Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, to discuss developments in Libya. The discussions underscored the importance of persisting with efforts to support the political process and enhance security and stability, with a focus on preserving Libya's unity and its national institutions.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry's official page highlighted that during the meeting, Abdel-Aty reiterated Egypt's steadfast support for Libya's unity and stability. He emphasized the necessity of maintaining the integrity of its national institutions and achieving a comprehensive political settlement through a Libyan-led process that facilitates simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest possible date.
The ministry further detailed that both sides exchanged views on international efforts to advance the political process in Libya. Abdel-Aty confirmed Egypt's backing for all UN, regional, and international initiatives, including US efforts, aimed at reaching a sustainable political resolution that maintains Libya's unity and meets the aspirations of its people.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry clarified that the meeting was part of ongoing consultations and coordination between Egypt and the United States regarding several regional issues of mutual interest, with Libya being a primary focus.
For his part, Mosaad Boulos emphasized the significance of continuing coordination and consultation with Egypt on various regional matters. He noted that such collaboration serves common interests and contributes to bolstering security and stability in the region.
