Cairo: Egypt and Turkey have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting a Libyan-owned and Libyan-led political process, facilitated by the United Nations, aimed at preserving Libya's security, stability, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political unity. This commitment was articulated in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between Egypt and Turkey, held in Cairo and co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to Libyan News Agency, President al-Sisi, during a press conference with President Erdogan, expressed Egypt's anticipation for resolving the governmental division in Libya. He emphasized the importance of holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections and called for the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya. Sisi highlighted the agreement with Turkey to support the United Nations-led political settlement process, alongside a Libyan-led solution, and praised the collaborative efforts with Turkey to achieve stability in Libya.
Turkish President Erdogan echoed these sentiments, asserting that preserving Libya's unity and territorial integrity to achieve lasting stability remains a common goal for both Turkey and Egypt. He stated at the joint press conference, "We agree on supporting the paths that will be implemented under Libyan leadership," emphasizing the shared objectives of the two nations in fostering peace and stability in Libya.
