The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, received today, Monday, the British Minister of State for Security Affairs, Tom Tugendhat, and his accompanying delegation.
The media office of the Prime Minister stated that "the two sides discussed during the meeting the bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially security and military, and the fight against terrorism, as well as in the field of combating corruption."
The Prime Minister praised the United Kingdom's support for Iraq and its standing with it in the war against the terrorist organization ISIS, and stressed the importance of cooperation with the British side in combating cross-border crimes, especially those related to smuggling and human trafficking, drug and psychotropic substances trade, in addition to recovering funds and those wanted by the Iraqi judiciary in cases of corruption, pointing out that combating corruption is a popular demand, and its danger does not stop at Iraq, but expands to threaten all countries of the world.
Al-Sudani stressed that "the government has prepared a national strategy to combat human trafficking in Iraq for the years 2023-2026, as well as the national strategy for combating narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for the years 2023-2025, referring to the great efforts made by Iraq in the field of combating this scourge."
The Prime Minister also welcomed "the signing of the joint declaration of intent, to be concluded between the Iraqi and British Ministries of Interior, and the draft memorandum of understanding between the two countries."
For his part, Tugendhat expressed Britain's readiness to support the Iraqi security forces and provide them with modern technologies, praising the Iraqi security services, of all kinds, in combating terrorism and eliminating the terrorist organization ISIS, and their role in the security stability of the country.
