Tripoli: Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, held a meeting on Sunday with Jeremy Berndt, Senior Policy Advisor for Libya Affairs at the U.S. State Department, to deliberate on the latest political and economic developments and a range of mutual interest issues.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Media Office of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, the discussions focused on political progress and Libyan efforts to establish conditions conducive to holding elections. Key topics included the outcomes of the "4+4 Committee," assigned to prepare the legal framework for elections, the reconstitution of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), the significance of leveraging established Libyan consensuses, and the role of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in supporting this process.
On the economic front, the dialogue centered on the unified development spending agreement and the necessity of adhering to its provisions. Discussions aimed to consolidate a unified path for development spending, enhance discipline, transparency, and equitable resource distribution, and maintain financial and economic stability.
The meeting also touched on the oil sector's status and ways to support the National Oil Corporation (NOC) in enhancing its operational capacity. This is intended to ensure production stability and efficient management of the sector based on professional and transparent principles.
Both parties stressed the importance of ongoing coordination and consultation on mutual interest issues and supporting national efforts to achieve stability and successfully conduct elections.
