Tripoli: Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbaiba, declared that the Ministry of Interior is now the sole entity responsible for securing the capital, marking a significant shift in Libya’s security landscape. During a security meeting at the Ministry of Interior headquarters, attended by key officials including the acting Minister of Interior and the Director of Tripoli Security, discussions focused on enhancing security and stability in the capital.
According to Libyan News Agency, Dbaiba highlighted that this development is the first of its kind since 2011. He announced the formation of two committees, in collaboration with the Presidential Council, aimed at overseeing security arrangements and monitoring prison conditions. Dbaiba emphasized the readiness of the Ministries of Interior and Defense to establish state institutions, moving beyond previous informal security structures.
He stated that the transition from chaos to state consolidation represents a significant achievement, made possible by the dismantling of major criminal militias. Dbaiba urged the Tripoli Security Directorate to set an example for other regions, noting their effective management of recent demonstrations without incidents.
Dbaiba stressed that recent demonstrations in the capital proceeded without any violations, reflecting the Ministry of Interior’s respect for public freedoms and citizens’ rights to peaceful expression. He underscored the importance of state control over all detention facilities, rejecting secret prisons and unlawful detentions.
The Prime Minister further emphasized the need for cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and the Internal Security Service, ensuring that all arrests and detentions are conducted under the Ministry of Interior’s authority and supervised by the Public Prosecution.
