Boulos: Stability in Libya Requires Unifying Institutions and Restoring Economic Vitality Through a Credible, Libyan-Led Political Process

Washington: US Presidential Advisor for African and Middle Eastern Affairs, Massad Boulos, affirmed that stability in Libya requires unifying institutions and restoring economic vitality through a political process, emphasizing Washington's support for these efforts.

According to Libyan News Agency, Boulos conveyed these views in a tweet posted on his X-platform account, commenting on a statement issued by the President of the UN Security Council regarding Libya. Boulos stated that Libya's path to lasting stability necessitates a credible, Libyan-led political process aimed at unifying institutions and revitalizing the economy. He highlighted that the United States remains committed to engaging with relevant Libyan parties in a practical and coordinated manner to create the necessary conditions for stable political institutions and long-term economic prosperity.

Boulos further expressed US support for the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), in facilitating these efforts. The emphasis was on a collaborative approach to ensure that the political and economic framework in Libya aligns with these objectives.

The statement issued by the UN Security Council's US President, Michael G. Walz, called for the implementation of a unified development program, underlining the necessity of a unified budget to avert further economic decline in Libya. The Council stressed the significance of unifying all institutions, including military and security entities, while preserving the unity and independence of the judicial system.
