Bahrain wins 12th gold medal at 19th Asian Games

Bahraini athletes have made history after clinching the 12th gold medal in the 19th Asian Games, hosted by the Chinese city of Hangzhou.

This is the best Asian participation in the kingdom’s history, as it bagged as many as 20 medals in various games, including 12 golds, three silvers and five bronzes.

Bahrain’s Gor Minasyan clinched the gold medal and set a new Games record in the 109kg category of the weightlifting competition of the Asian Games, which is the first Bahraini gold medal in this sport.

His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Cabinet Affairs Ministry’s Undersecretary and Head of the kingdom’s delegation to the 19th Asian Games, attended the weightlifting final in which Gor Minasyan bagged the gold medal.

HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali expressed delight at the medal which raised the kingdom’s medal tally to 20, 12 of which are gold.

Bahraini wrestler, Akhmed Tazhudinov, also earned the kingdom a gold medal in the 97kg category of the wrestling competition in the 19th Asian Games, which is also the first of its kind to be won by Bahrain.
