Tripoli: The Minister of Interior of the Government of National Unity, Major General Imad Al-Trabelsi, met today in Tripoli with the Turkish Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, and his accompanying delegation to discuss ways to strengthen security cooperation between Libya and Turkey. The meeting was attended by several security leaders from the Ministry, focusing on joint coordination in areas such as training and qualification programs for Libyan Ministry of Interior personnel, combating illegal migration, and border security.
According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Trabelsi emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to overcoming challenges that have impacted the country’s security situation in recent years. He highlighted that efforts are ongoing to improve performance, with positive results already being achieved. The Ministry is prioritizing illegal immigration, maintaining communication with European Union and African countries.
The acting Minister of the Interior outlined a phased security plan, starting with securing borders, followed by deserts and cities, and finally the coasts. The plan also involves a voluntary repatriation program for migrants and targeting organized criminal gangs involved in human trafficking.
Ali Yerlikaya, the Turkish Minister of the Interior, commended the Libyan Ministry’s efforts and shared insights into Turkey’s experience in combating illegal immigration, noting the positive outcomes achieved in recent years.
