Al-Menfi signs the final statement of the Summit of member states of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

Tripoli The President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, signed the final statement of the 16th Summit of Heads of State Members of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, during a ceremony that took place in Tripoli yesterday.

According to the communication office of the Council, the signing ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of the Lake Chad Basin Authority, Maman Nouhou, his assistant Emmanuel Stanley, the ambassadors of Niger and Chad to Libya, and on the Libyan side, the Deputy Head of the Government of National Unity, the designated Minister of Agriculture, the Chief of the General staff, and the chief of Intelligence Agency.

The communication office said that the final statement included decisions related to security, defense, environment, development, and water resources.

It is noteworthy that the Lake Chad Basin Member States Commission works according to strategies in the area of security and environment, and enhancing the sharing of water resources in the region and Africa, and the Authority has a Board of Commissioners, in which Libya is represented by two, the Minister of Agriculture, the first commissioner, and the Minister of Water Resources, the second commissioner, in addition to a number of ministerial councils, such as the councils of defense ministers.

The Lake Chad Basin Authority was established in 1962, and Libya officially joined it in 2008 and has participated since 2005 as an observer, and the authority includes six countries: Chad, Libya, Central Africa, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Niger.
