Tripoli: Presidential Council member Abdullah Al-Lafi held discussions with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, on the political landscape and the challenges hindering the fulfillment of national obligations in Libya.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting took place at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli, where both parties explored mechanisms to enhance the United Nations’ involvement in fostering a consensual resolution to the ongoing political impasse. Al-Lafi underscored the importance of aligning UN efforts with a Libyan national vision that upholds sovereignty, while highlighting the need for clearer and decisive actions from political entities to rejuvenate a sense of consensus.
Al-Lafi reiterated the Presidential Council’s commitment to laying a robust groundwork for conducting elections and advancing the national reconciliation process. Discussions also extended to regional matters, addressing the impact of the Sudanese crisis and changes in the Sahel region on Libya’s security. Al-Lafi called for heightened international collaboration to safeguard stability.
Hanna Tetteh expressed the United Nations’ dedication to backing Libya and its citizens, committing to collaborate with all national parties to ensure a comprehensive and enduring resolution that preserves Libya’s unity and stability.
