Benghazi: Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR), Youssef Al-Aqouri, met with the French Ambassador to Libya, Mustafa Mihraje, at the HoR headquarters in Benghazi. The meeting marked the end of Mihraje’s term as France’s ambassador to Libya. Al-Aqouri expressed appreciation for Mihraje’s efforts and acknowledged the positive cooperation and understanding that have defined Libyan-French relations on several bilateral and regional issues.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting covered a range of topics, including political developments in Libya, the formation of a unified government, human rights, municipal elections, and the maritime border agreement with Turkey. Al-Aqouri highlighted France’s role in supporting Libya’s stability and emphasized the importance of continued coordination on issues of mutual interest.
Al-Aqouri also discussed the challenges faced by Ambassador Mihraje during his tenure, evaluated the level of bilateral cooperation, and addressed the future of the French technical program submitted to the HoR. The conversation also touched upon the European Union’s role in supporting stability in Libya.
On the topic of migration, Al-Aqouri reiterated Libya’s stance against being a guardian of Europe’s borders and stressed the importance of cooperation that respects Libyan sovereignty. He also reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to treating Sudanese migrants equally with Libyan citizens, highlighting the impact of political division on human rights and the need for ongoing attention from the HoR.
Ambassador Mihraje expressed his gratitude for the reception and emphasized the strategic importance of Franco-Libyan relations, wishing continued security and stability for the Libyan people.
