Johannesburg: The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has made a significant move by adopting a proposal from Libya to permanently include the issue of sanctions on Africa in its agenda for all future sessions. This development emerged from the preparatory meetings of the PAP Presidium held in South Africa, as confirmed by Abdullah Blihaq, the spokesman for Libya’s House of Representatives (HoR).

According to Libyan News Agency, the inclusion of this permanent agenda item was driven by Youssef Al-Fakhri, a member of the HoR and the PAP Presidium. During the meetings, participants also reviewed and approved the minutes from the previous session and discussed amendments to a protocol by the African Union. The meetings further addressed the extension of the Presidium’s mandate, resulting in agreed amendments and the adoption of the general session agenda slated for July 16 to 31 in South Africa.

Blihaq emphasized that establishing this permanent agenda item underscores a progressive African perspective on sovereignty and development issues. It aims to amplify the voices of African peoples in both regional and international discussions. He reaffirmed that the Palestinian issue would also remain a critical subject in every session, reflecting the African Parliament’s steadfast commitment to justice and human rights.
