China warned, Thursday, against foreign interference in Libya, describing it as the key factor contributing to the crisis’ extension in the country.

The Xinhua news agency quoted the advisor of the Chinese permanent mission to the UN, Sun Chiang, as saying, “Adherence to the principle of Libyan ownership and leadership is the only way to achieve the country’s peace and stability.”

In the Security Council meeting on Libya related to the International Criminal Court (ICC) file, Chiang said that the International Community should provide constructive support for the political stability, national reconciliation, and economic development in Libya, and avoid the complex impact of externally imposed solutions on the situation in Libya.

“China’s position in ICC-related activities has not changed, calling on the ICC to continue to strictly follow the principle of complementarity as stipulated in the Rome Statute, fully respect the judicial sovereignty and reasonable opinions of relevant countries, as well as avoid politicization and double standards in its work,” he added.
