Tripoli: The West Coast Military Region has officially commended the efforts of its regular military units in ensuring the security of the municipal elections in the coastal region. The region’s involvement was crucial in safeguarding the electoral process at polling stations managed by the Zawiya Electoral Administration Office, which included locations such as Central Zawiya, Downtown Zawiya, Western Zawiya, Northern Zawiya, Sabratha, Surman, and Bir al-Ghanam.
According to Libyan News Agency, the region’s media office communicated on its official Facebook page that their security measures commenced with the transportation of ballot boxes and electoral materials from the High National Elections Commission’s headquarters in Tripoli to various distribution centers at polling stations. This operation was aimed at ensuring the materials’ safe and orderly arrival.
The participation of military units was a significant part of the security operation, involving the 52nd Infantry Brigade, the 103rd Infantry Battalion, the 33rd Special Operations Battalion, the 22nd Thunderbolt Battalion, the 138th Infantry Battalion, and the 135th Infantry Battalion. These efforts were essential in protecting polling stations, providing a secure environment for voters, and promoting democratic engagement and local stability.
