Tripoli: Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, has emphasized Libya’s critical position in the regional security framework due to its strategic geopolitical location and African connections. His remarks were made during his address at the ninth summit of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), where leaders and heads of state and government convened to discuss key issues affecting the continent.
According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Lafi expressed Libya’s commitment to collaborating with other African nations and international partners. He highlighted the importance of fostering peace, development, and genuine African integration, despite Libya’s history of political and institutional challenges. Al-Lafi conveyed optimism about Libya’s future, asserting that recovery is attainable through strong popular will and the nation’s promising economic potential.
He further stressed that true stability in Libya can only be achieved through comprehensive national re
conciliation and inclusive dialogue. Al-Lafi called for discussions on peace and security in Africa to consider fair development, social justice, and respect for national sovereignty, recognizing the continent’s potential to serve as a global development model given its human and natural resources.
Moreover, Al-Lafi commended Japan for its supportive role in Africa, emphasizing the need for partnerships based on mutual respect and knowledge transfer rather than guardianship. He advocated for empowering the African Union to effectively resolve conflicts and build peace, in collaboration with international partners and a fair United Nations system that ensures balanced international relations.
