New york: The US representative to the Security Council emphasized the critical need for Libya to consolidate its political institutions, asserting that a unified government is vital for the nation’s prosperity and sovereignty.
According to Libyan News Agency, the representative addressed the Security Council in a session focused on Libya, highlighting the importance of a single government that can effectively govern the entire country.
The representative articulated that such unification is necessary to safeguard Libya’s borders and prevent its territory from being exploited for illegal activities, including migration, terrorism, and smuggling. She underscored the role of independent institutions like the National Oil Corporation, the Central Bank, and the Audit Bureau in bolstering Libya’s stability and economic prospects.
Furthermore, she called for enhanced security cooperation between institutions in Libya’s eastern and western regions. This integration, she noted, is crucial for achieving both national and international security and stability. The US representative also urged all Libyan stakeholders to participate earnestly in the UN roadmap, which aims to advance a political process that is both Libyan-led and Libyan-owned.
