New york: The British representative to the UN Security Council emphasized that the absence of political progress in Libya is exacerbating instability, corruption, and economic mismanagement. He expressed regret over the failure to implement the UN roadmap.
According to Libyan News Agency, during the UN Security Council meeting on Libya, the British representative remarked, “It is disappointing that the first milestones of the roadmap have not been implemented. I call on the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to complete this work expeditiously.”
The British representative noted that the ongoing political deadlock in Libya is depriving its citizens of democratic choice, economic opportunities, and security. He reiterated his country’s support for the UN mission’s efforts to advance the political process in Libya, emphasizing that the current situation is untenable.
He urged Libyan parties to engage in a process aimed at holding free, fair, transparent, and inclusive national elections, and to facilitate the commission’s completion of municipal elections.
The British representative also welcomed the agreement between the Government of National Unity and the Deterrence Force, regarding it as a significant step toward reducing tensions in Tripoli.
He expressed hope for the initiation of a structured dialogue based on the UN’s proposed roadmap, highlighting this process as a crucial step to maintain political momentum.
