Tripoli: The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has underscored that women’s political participation remains a crucial priority in its endeavors to bolster the political process within the country.
According to Libyan News Agency, UNSMIL announced on its website that a special track has been allocated for the inclusion of women in the political process, emphasizing the sustained assurance of their involvement throughout the entire political framework. The mission highlighted the necessity of amplifying women’s participation in elections, advocating for their roles both as voters and candidates, and is actively engaging with women’s groups and civil society organizations to achieve this goal.
Moreover, the mission conveyed that it is offering technical support to the Women’s Empowerment Unit of the High National Elections Commission. This initiative is in collaboration with UN Women and the United Nations Development Programme, aimed at enhancing women’s engagement in the political landscape of Libya.
