UN Envoys Meet with Libyan National Army Leaders in Benghazi

Benghazi: UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and her Deputy for Political Affairs, Stephanie Koury, held a meeting in Benghazi with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), and his deputy, Gen. Saddam Haftar.

According to Libyan News Agency, the discussions centered around the UN’s proposed political roadmap, which aims to lead Libya towards national elections and structured dialogue. This roadmap was recently announced by Tetteh during her briefing to the UN Security Council.

The meeting also addressed the security situation in Tripoli and across Libya, emphasizing the need for de-escalation and the prevention of further conflict. Additionally, they discussed the humanitarian response for Sudanese refugees currently in Libya.

Tetteh expressed appreciation for the LNA’s cooperation with the UN mission. Meanwhile, Field Marshal Haftar and his deputy reiterated their commitment to supporting the roadmap through dialogue and inclusive
consultation.
