New York: The UN envoy to Libya, Hannah Tetteh, has announced her intention to introduce a time-bound roadmap reflecting the demands of the Libyan populace to bring an end to the ongoing transitional phase. This announcement was made during her second briefing on Libya to the Security Council.
According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh highlighted that a significant number of Libyans are calling for a political process that encourages widespread participation, allowing citizens to elect leadership and establish a government with a clear mandate. Tetteh pointed out that the trust in current political bodies has waned, as many Libyans doubt these entities’ commitment to prioritizing national interests over personal gains.
The UN envoy underscored that the International Follow-up Committee for the Berlin Process meeting is a crucial step in rallying international support to boost UN-led initiatives aimed at launching an inclusive political dialogue in Libya. The participants agreed on the necessity of regular meetings to align and enhance international backing for the UN-facilitated political process.
Tetteh stressed the indispensable role of international support as Libya stands on the brink of a pivotal moment in its quest to solidify democracy and elect a government capable of unifying the country’s institutions. She also highlighted the importance of establishing independent investigative mechanisms to ensure justice, truth, and accountability within Libya.
